On Saturday 5th October, long time Mojácar resident, Jackie Miles Kirby organised a Lip Sync competition as a fundraiser for the Vera & District Lions Club.
Aided by singer and entertainer, Kay Frances who compared the evening at Tito´s Space on Mojácar Playa, where over 2,900€ was raised for the local Lions charity.
Local residents took part in the competition, lip syncing to 17 different artists including Bananarama, Britney Spears, Debbie Harry, Cilla Black, Miley Cyrus, Suzi Quatro, Tina Turner, Right Said Fred and Freddie Mercury.
The evening was a great success, as was Jackie´s last charity event, the Mods v Rockers, and will surely become another fixture on the calendar of events in 2025.
The Vera and District Lions Club was formed in 2011 and received its charter in November 2012.
The registered charity helps the local community in many ways and is funded by kind donations, from the sales in its shop in Turre and various events organised throughout the year with one of the largest being the summer Party in the Park, an all-day music event held in Vera.
The Vera & District Lions work very closely with the local community. They support the local foodb anks, assist with equipment loan such as wheelchairs and walkers, alongside cots and beds, this list goes on.
They also help people in need and have a very good link with the local Nuns and the Churches. Along with supporting Asprodalba, who help people with disabilities.
Over their short existence they have helped many people in the community with specialised equipment for those in need and various other means of support to people with serious illness, both Spanish and those who have moved into the area or have been passing through as visitors.
They continue to donate to the local children’s homes, especially at those times of the year when they may not have what others have the privilege to take for granted.
